Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
|
Some of California’s most sought after and expensive wines come out of the Rutherford AVA, the historical core of the Napa Valley.
But at the forefront, it is Cabernet Sauvignon that performs marvelously here, giving sumptuous wines of great profundity and longevity. Cabernet's preeminence here is no new idea. Captain Gustave Niebaum's 19th-century Inglenook made Cabernets in 1887, 1888, and 1889 all still survive. Georges de Latour began growing Cabernet in what is now BV No.1 in 1900, and knew that he had world class results. It is a widely known fact that Napa owes much of its reputation to pioneers who settled in the Rutherford area and established such important winery estates as Beaulieu Vineyard and Inglenook. It was also these very wineries that reawakened the fame of the Napa Valley after Prohibition, and sustained it through hard economic times in the 1940’s, 1950’s, and 1960’s. Most of these treasured properties run in a long, straight line along the base of the western hills
